Put Some Chrome To Your Dome

After a long anticipation of their new up coming album its finally here. Chrome Cabot have just finished the mastering of their debut album Rock Cuisine. I've been privilege enough to have a pre-release listen to the album, straight out of lead singer Ches Packs hands. Today I laid back on my bed and strapped on my head phones around my ears and soaked in what is a delicious Rock Cuisine. It was so tasty, I devoured every track like it was my last meal. At the end I wanted more. First off I just have to say that lead guitarist Jason Sheppard has got to be one of if not the best heavy metal guitarist in Newfoundland today, he rips through songs like Bottoms Up and Quite Moist with blazing riffs that will make your fingers bleed from just listening to them. From fast riffs to sick solos Jace proved his self on this album as a talent to be reckoned with. But "Snake" isn't the only talent that shines on this album, he is complimented by the steady deep base lines from Dave Pittman, the beginning of Aim To Please you can hear a funk bass line similar to that of Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers pouring out of the speakers. He and Jace makes the perfect combo where one only grows better and heightens the others sound. The heavy drum beat of Robbie Welcher can be found in each and every one of the albums tracks. He brings the power that every heavy metal band that brought to the table. You will have no problem banging your head as Robbie bangs the drums all over this album. Last but absolutely not least of the fab four band members, with charisma and stage presence that rivals that of David Lee Roth himself, is the one and only Ches Pack. With a voice that sounds that of the illegitimate love child of Brian Johnson and Paul Stanley. You can hear the influence of ACDC and Kiss all over this album. Pack brings the voice to the album full of talented musicians. He brings the classic classic rock voice. Today's music has no passion or thought put into it, but Rock Cuisine has passion poured all over it. You can tell these guys love what they are doing and it shows through each and every track. Their lyrics are cleaver and well thought out along with the music that fits nicely over the lyrics. I'm proud to have the first taste of the Rock Cuisine and its not a meal you'll get sick of. So buy this album, blare it all over Newfoundland out through car windows or dorm room doors. Make people hear it if they don't already know and spread the word of Chrome. Like I did, go home, put some Chrome to your dome, play it loud and play it often.

Chrome Chain Locker

This weekend i decided to go into St. John's Newfoundland with a good friend of mine Harv. So we drove in on a beautiful Friday night hoping to catch one of my favorite bands to ever take St John's by storm. The Bonavista Chain Locker sounds like a weird name for a group. Originally it was a club in Bonavista where I was born and raised. Memories of teenage dances and fun nights was an inspiration for this band and thought the stories were great. Believing that the name was great as well that its what they would call their new band. Oh what a band it is, a mix between gypsy roma music and headed with a voice that sounds familiar with that of Tom Waits, how can you not love this band. I showed up there just as the band are starting, Harv apparently was there before me. The place sold out, with a packed room at The Ship, The Bonavista Chain Locker had the people jumping and singing along to their catchy tunes. Dancing along was not a problem in front of the stage, even though elbows were bumped everyone was in a great mood and lighthearted. Good vibes were passed all around from the crowd. What a great Friday night, the show was wicket and I strongly advise anyone who sees an imaginative Bonavista Chain Locker poster on a street pole, take some time to check out the date and clear your calendar accordingly. You wont be disappointed.
Saturday night I was pleasantly surprised that a group that never let me down every time I see them play were playing that night at The Levee. Chrome Cabot are a band that brings 80s rock back to the new age of music. In an age where music has no feeling or heart. Where you can turn on the radio and pass from station to station hearing the same pop song being played by a hundred different bands. Out of the depths come a band that brings back the flamboyant, raw, in your face heavy rock. Not only do they take cover songs from Acdc, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Van Halen that would make any rock fan proud to hear but they also shred their own songs. Its a flashback when you listen to Chrome preform. Nothing is held back, from Ches' metal scream to Jas' wicket killer guitar. Robbie's thunderous dums are perfect alongside Dave's hard baseline. The boys really knocked it out of the park Saturday night. Even though they themselves might not have liked the sound I personally was happy to hear the songs that I grew up with done perfectly, sometimes even better. If your ever in St. John's or anywhere else in the world and hear that Chrome Cabot was playing at your local bar check them out. Be taken away to another time when heavy rock and killer guitar ruled the airwaves, not like today where pussies take the lead unfortunately. We have to put a stop to bad music, one way to help do this is check out Chrome Cabot and bang your head to the pride of Bonavista Newfoundland.

Chrome Kills The Horse

 

If you love the 80s hair metal days these guys can take you back in seconds. It was a great time seeing an old friend of mine Jason Sheppard aka Snake kill his Les Paul while Chesley Pack sings almost exactly like the Brian Johnson of yesterday laying down classic ACDC  songs as Thunderstruck. But they are not just another cover band that just walks through the club scene, no these guys have real songwriting skills and have just landed a grant from MusicNL to record a 6 song EP in the new year. So far the boys have 2 original songs recorded Quite Moist, Bottoms Up and Aim To Please which is exactly what they do. 2011 is going to be a great year for the band consisting of Chesley Pack (vocals), Jason Sheppard (lead guitar), David Pittman (bass) and Robbie Welcher (drums). With their new EP about to be released and more shows already lined up. Watch out for Chrome Cabot and if your local club hasn't yet had the pleasure of having them play, tell them to get in contact through facebook. Last night was a blast, with Pack as the flamboyant frontman and Sheppard tearing up the guitar next to him they are the perfect pairing in the tradition of Plant/Page, Roth/Halen, Johnson/Young, Rose/Slash, the list goes on and on. Congrats on the show last night Chrome you left us wanting more and that is the making of a perfect concert.
